In the anime world, being able to copy an opponent’s ability makes an anime character incredibly powerful. However, there are anime characters who take that to the next level and “steal” the other person’s ability instead. As a result, their opponent will either become significantly less powerful or powerless altogether.
Being able to steal another person’s ability is fearsome, and so it’s understandable that not a lot of characters possess this kind of power. Some of the most famous ones who do, however, are listed below:
Chrollo (Hunter x Hunter)
As the supreme leader of rogue criminal group Phantom Troupe, Chrollo Lucilfer needs to have devastating and incredibly powerful abilities to keep his members in check. In the Hunter x Hunter universe, Chrollo is considered to be one of the top Nen users to be shown in the anime and manga, so far.
There are specific conditions that he must meet before he can successfully steal another person’s powers, but it has been clear in his battle with the Zoldyck heads that it would be impossible for him to do it during battles. Still, all the abilities he garnered so far gave him the power to drive Zeno Zoldyck, a world-famous assassin, to a stalemate during their sparring.
All For One (Boku no Hero Academia)
The superhuman world of Boku no Hero Academia mostly relies on the lottery of quirks. Some people possess weak abilities, while there are others who seem to have won the jackpot. All For One, the main villain of the series, for example, has the power to steal other people’s quirks. He has the choice to keep the quirk on his own or give it to others.
It has been speculated that All For One must have gotten himself an age-reversing quirk because he has been living for over a century now. No one can tell for sure just how many quirks does he have at the moment, but what’s clear is that he has some of the scariest abilities and that the heroes of the series will definitely have a hard time defeating him once and for all.
Otosaka Yuu (Charlotte)
On this list, Otosaka Yuu is the only one who isn’t a villain. In fact, he is the hero of his own anime. When he was young, he discovered that he has the ability to steal other people’s bodies for a few minutes, and for a long while, he had used that ability for perverted purposes, such as cheating on tests or touching breasts. It was much later in the series that it was revealed that the true nature of his ability is to “steal” other people’s powers. The bad side, however, is that he also learned that people with powers like him are being experimented on.
To save everyone with powers, he made it his goal to travel the world and steal their abilities. In his mind, this is a way for them to live a more normal life and prevent scientists from capturing them to be experimented on. Charlotte is a sad but satisfying anime, and if you haven’t seen it, we highly recommend that you do so.
Black Beard (One Piece)
In the whole One Piece series, Marshal D Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is the only character to have possessed two Devil Fruit powers. His first Devil Fruit is the Dark Dark Fruit, which powers is considered to be the most unique. It gave him the ability to steal his opponent’s powers, rendering them powerless in the process.
In the realm of power-stealing abilities, Yhwach is the one to be feared the most. While other characters simply render their opponents effectively powerless, Yhawach’s victims all turned up dead. The crux of his powers is to kill other people to steal their abilities completely, and he did it with some of the most powerful characters in Bleach, including Yamamoto.
